Which chitosan should you buy to start your R&D work?
Our default recommendation is to start with two chitosan products. Both with a high degree of deacetylation (90 – 98%), one with a medium-high molecular weight/viscosity, and the other with a low molecular weight/viscosity. This allows you to conduct quick experiments to determine which one gives you the best form, behavior, and functionality for your formulation. The high DDA%, common to both, acts as a quasi-control. Whereas the molecular weight/viscosity can be tuned for optimization towards the middle of the range of the two chitosans, or even move outside the range.
